A review on mice and men written bye john steinbeck

Steeped in tragedy, Of Mice and Men explores themes of friendship and loneliness, of aspirations and of dreams. Mice enthusiasts will come away disappointed.

And what about Call it Sleep. Knowing a man well never leads to hate and nearly always leads to love. Characters I was a bindlestiff myself for quite a spell. Soon they knew his wife too who, unhappy for her marriage, wandered around the farm to speak with someone on the sly and for her habit she didn't have a good reputation.

Some critics were disappointed that Steinbeck did not give his audience the typical happy ending customary for literary underdog characters like George and Lennie.

Slim is greatly respected by many of the characters and is the only character whom Curley treats with respect. The other characters refer to her only as "Curley's wife". When Curley saw her he understood who was the culprit.

I hate to tell you how many times I saw him do it. I think a Cigarette or You Out is clearly missing from that title. They hope to one day attain the dream of settling down on their own piece of land. He's in an insane asylum in California right now. The book is about a man called George and his childlike, kind-hearted friend Lennie.

Moreover, the characters in Of Mice and Men show a difficult truth about loneliness and an unreachable dream--something that most people, no matter their nationality or social station, can identify with.

The trio are ecstatic, but their joy is overshadowed when Curley attacks Lennie, who defends himself by easily crushing Curley's fist while urged on by George. She allows Lennie to stroke her hair as an apparently harmless indulgence, only for her to upset Lennie when she yells at him to stop him 'mussing it'.

Of Mice and Men

As George, Candy and Crooks are positive, action- oriented characters, they wish to purchase a homestead, but because of the Depression, they are unable to generate enough money.

He is very jealous and protective of his wife and immediately develops a dislike toward Lennie. Indeed, to coin a phrase, no mockingbirds were harmed during the making of that book. Another grossly misleading title is Women in Love. Depicting a tender yet dependent friendship between the two protagonists, Of Mice and Men is a beautifully constructed story with intimately drawn characters who weave the story together.

You would have to say that such books as The Slap, The Help, The Great Gatsby, Gangsta Granny, Mrs Dalloway and Hamlet have very good titles because they are all about a slap, some help, a Gatsby who was really great, a no good granny, a woman who was married to a guy called Dalloway and a Hamlet.

A truly heartbreaking book. Then he started to search the man to kill him. Curley's Napoleon complex is evidenced by his threatening of the farm hands for minuscule incidents.

Steinbeck in the Schools

Candy aspires to reassert his responsibility lost with the death of his dog, and for security for his old age—on George's homestead. Yet another good thing about this book is that it is not long and does not drag on like other great books as The Great Gatsby and To Kill A Mockingbird which is great for readers who do not like to read long books and get bored when reading long books.

An early review in The Book Review Digest expressed a similar sentiment accusing Steinbeck of creating characters who are incapable of thinking rationally for themselves: It has been translated into numerous languages and is still enormously popular in the United States.

Rather then force me to get my act together and quit moaning, he allowed me to chose a different Shakespeare play Othello and a different text to study my memory fails me which oneon the condition that I did one hell of a lot of independent studying, which I obliged to do.

It was nothing like that. A mentally disabledbut gigantic and physically strong man who travels with George and is his constant companion.

George meets Lennie at the place, their camping spot before they came to the ranch. I had breezed through English Literature for much of my school life, studying The Ghost of Thomas Kempe by Penelope Lively and a beautiful text called Flight by Dorris Lessing which will always remind me of Frangipani trees and verandas.

Lennie wasn't sane, but he was a good guy and a strong worker: The loneliness of Curley's wife is upheld by Curley's jealousy, which causes all the ranch hands to avoid her. Lennie must die as he represents the weak in society who are unfit for survival.
